Planting 100 Shade Trees on School Playgrounds to Protect Children

Oklahoma Forestry Services will celebrate the NASF #CentennialChallenge by working with the Tree Bank Foundation to plant 100 shade trees on school playgrounds across Oklahoma in 2020.

The Centers for Disease Control says overexposure to UV radiation is responsible for between 68% and 90% of all melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer.

To help prevent skin cancer in children and adults, the agency’s centennial celebration will build on the established S.T.O.P (Shade Trees on Playgrounds) effort and incorporate Arbor Day Foundation K-12 Tree Campus programming.
