100 social media posts about 100 different tree species found in Mississippi

The Mississippi Forestry Commission made 109 social media posts on its Facebook and Instagram pages profiling 109 different tree species found throughout the state. This resulted in 98,816 impressions and 5,513 engagements.  The commission started their #CentennialChallenge on January 1, and will be making approximately two posts each week through the end of the year.

Pictured at left is one of these posts on the loblolly pine (or Pinus taeda). This conifer species is found throughout Mississippi and at full maturity can reach 100 feet tall. The most commercially important tree species in the southern U.S., the loblolly pine can live more than 50 years.
